A milestone for Kurdish broadcasting: Nûçe TV officially goes on air

Nûçe TV, which is based in Rojava Kurdistan, began broadcasting today. The channel will broadcast its programmes in Kurdish and Sorani, and will be available in HD on the Hotbird and Nilesat satellites.

The Kurdish media landscape is strengthened by another television channel. The Kurdish channel Nûçe TV began broadcasting today, which is Kurdish Language Day.

Preparations for the launch of Nûçe TV had been ongoing in Rojava for over a year. The channel had planned to begin broadcasting on Newroz 2025, but this did not materialise due to attacks by the Syrian regime.

The television’s management issued a lengthy statement on the occasion of the launch. In the statement, the channel’s aim was expressed in the following words:

NÛÇE TV will strive to embrace the entire Kurdish community with a new language, approach and perspective. It begins broadcasting as a national channel with the slogan “News is the Truth”. It aims to fill the existing vacuum with free, democratic and impartial information. The main aim of NÛÇE TV is to inform the public accurately in the pursuit of the truth.”

The statement positioned objectivity and a national line as the channel’s perspective:

“With objective and national broadcasting, it is determined to be the voice of society in Kurdistan, the region, and the world. To cleanse the subconscious of the consciousness of division, it will base its broadcasting on unity.”

NÛÇE TV will broadcast news programmes in Kurdish and Sorani and will air them in HD quality via the Hotbird and Nilesat satellites.

The satellites and channels on which NÛÇE TV will broadcast are as follows:

Nilesat: 12687 H 27500

Hotbird: 11296 H 27500
