The commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, urged the Syrian government to halt military operations and return to negotiations, warning of escalating violence in northeastern Syria.
Abdi said attacks had intensified on areas under SDF control, including detention facilities holding ISIS members and their families, particularly in al-Shaddadi and al-Hawl Camp. He called on the International Coalition to take responsibility for protecting these sites.
He accused Damascus of launching attacks on Hasakah, its countryside, and Kobani, noting that ceasefire proposals made over the past two weeks had gone unanswered. Abdi stressed that the protection of Kurdish-majority areas remains a “red line” for the SDF.

SDF and Damascus announce ceasefire in Hasakah
The SDF and the Syrian Ministry of Defense separately confirmed their commitment to a temporary ceasefire in Hasakah governorate, starting Tuesday evening.
The SDF said it would not initiate military action unless attacked and reiterated its openness to political dialogue. Damascus announced the suspension of military operations for four days, describing the truce as a step toward stabilizing the region and resuming talks.
Preliminary deal reached on Hasakah’s future
The Syrian presidency announced a preliminary understanding with the SDF on governance and security arrangements in Hasakah.
Under the agreement, Syrian government forces will remain outside the centers of Hasakah and Qamishli, while Kurdish villages will be secured by local forces. The deal also outlines the gradual integration of SDF military, security, and civilian institutions into state structures, alongside guarantees of Kurdish cultural and linguistic rights.
AANES accuses Damascus of besieging Kobani
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) accused Syrian government-affiliated forces of cutting water, electricity, and supply routes to Kobani.
According to AANES, the blockade has halted the entry of food, fuel, and medicine, placing civilians at serious risk. The administration called on the international community to pressure Damascus to lift the siege and restore essential services.
