Damascus-affiliated militias attempt to besiege Kobani

Arab militias affiliated with the regime have reportedly attempted to besiege the Kurdish city, which serves as the administrative center of the Euphrates Canton.

After the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) withdrew from two provinces on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, Kobani has become a primary target of the Syrian government in Damascus. Arab militias affiliated with the regime have reportedly attempted to besiege the Kurdish city, which serves as the administrative center of the Euphrates Canton.

Clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) have intensified south of Kobani. In a statement, the SDF said it repelled an attack launched by Damascus-affiliated factions on the Qaraqozaq Bridge, claiming the attackers suffered “heavy losses” during the fighting.

The Administration of the Euphrates Canton warned that Arab militias aligned with the Syrian government are attempting to encircle Kobani by blocking all main roads connecting the city to surrounding areas. According to the administration, the Qaraqozaq Bridge is the main objective of these armed groups. The bridge has long been a focal point of tension, previously witnessing clashes between Turkish-backed factions and Kurdish forces.
