Trump signals possible US exit from NATO

Donald Trump is considering a US withdrawal from NATO after allies declined to back action against Iran, according to The Daily Telegraph.

US President Donald Trump has reportedly said he is strongly considering withdrawing the United States from NATO after allies declined to support recent US military action against Iran, according to an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

Trump described the alliance as a “paper tiger” and indicated that leaving NATO is now “beyond reconsideration”, reiterating long-standing doubts about the organisation’s credibility. He also suggested that Vladimir Putin is aware of NATO’s perceived weaknesses.

In response, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed Britain’s full commitment to NATO, calling it “the single most effective military alliance the world has ever seen”. A spokesperson for the German government also reiterated Berlin’s continued support for the alliance.

Trump’s criticism reflects longstanding concerns that NATO members rely too heavily on US military power while failing to fully support American strategic actions, including the recent conflict involving Iran.
