Lorestan at the center of escalating strikes in western Iran

Lorestan province has become one of the main locations of recent military strikes in western Iran during the ongoing conflict. Several Iranian military and security facilities were targeted across the province, particularly in its capital Khorramabad and other nearby cities, causing damage to residential and commercial buildings.

On the ninth day of the war, most reported attacks in western Iran (Rojhelat) were concentrated in Lorestan Province, according to local authorities and media reports.

The attacks were mainly reported in Khorramabad, the provincial capital, as well as Borujerd, Nurabad, Kuhdasht, Aleshtar, and Rumeshkan.

In Khorramabad, several military and security facilities were targeted, including bases linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and police units. Among the sites reportedly struck were a base near the historic Falak-ol-Aflak Castle, the IRGC Tribal Army facility, and positions belonging to the Iranian army’s 57th Brigade.

Strikes also affected other western provinces. Explosions were reported in Kermanshah, while security facilities were reportedly targeted in Saqqez and several locations in Ilam Province. Some reports indicate that police stations and IRGC facilities were among the targets.

Military analysts say the wider campaign has focused heavily on Iranian internal security and military infrastructure, including missile bases and command centers across western Iran. Satellite imagery has previously confirmed strikes on facilities such as the Khorramabad missile base, which reportedly housed ballistic missile launchers and storage tunnels.

Earlier in the conflict, separate strikes in Lorestan were also reported to have killed several members of the Iranian army and the IRGC. Officials close to the IRGC claimed that many bases had been evacuated before the latest strikes, suggesting casualties were limited.

Lorestan Province is located in western Iran and is home mainly to Lur populations, with Kurdish communities also living in parts of the region. Its capital is Khorramabad, known for the historic Falak-ol-Aflak Castle, a major cultural landmark.

Due to its geographic position between Kurdish-majority provinces such as Kermanshah Province and Kurdistan Province, many Kurdish political and cultural narratives consider Lorestan part of the broader region referred to as Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhelat).
